I'M CINDY
I recently owned a beautiful art gallery in Kingsport, TN for close to 13 years, showcasing a wide range of artists of all mediums in the Tri-Cities area community, most of them local and regional, Many of these artists had their first exhibition in our gallery--I loved being able to introduce their talent and bring them out of the woodwork. I have been humbly honored with a YWCA Tribute to Women award as well as KOSBE Small Business award for Woman owned business. I was commissioned for a 5'x7' painting in the local hospital Holston Valley in Kingsport. My work has evolved to a more impressionist style since my very realistic beginning, but I still maintain the importance of learning classically as a good foundation. It's important to know how to draw and the concepts of light in order to extend that knowledge to impressionist and abstracted work. Here, the process is less about rendering a painting to look like the subject, and more about creating a piece as you go, letting the work and subject define itself through random application and mark making--it's fun and full of surprises. My husband and I are recent empty-nesters and have been drawn back to Charleston SC, where we met and our son was born. We're happy to be back in the Lowcountry where the light shines warm and bright, and there is plenty of inspiration for painting! My work is featured in public and private collections in the US and internationally. I give 10% of sales to Ocean Cleanup.
Inspiration
I'm inspired by the beauty of the world and the way the light plays on the environment. I love to travel and am inspired by capturing not only the landscape of an area, but the culture and people as well. I'll never run out of subjects for paintings!
Career Highlights
My first of many exhibits was in Montpellier, France, where I was trained. I've shown and sold in a number of galleries. I co-founded I'On art group in Charleston, SC and have helped initiate, organize and manage several art festivals and events over the years, both in Charleston and Kingsport. I was a lead artist on a local carousel project, where I contributed as well as assisted artists in painting the rounding boards on the top. My most proud accomplishment is owning an art gallery for 13 years, showcasing many regional artists, a number of which had never exhibited before. I loved being able to provide the community with such incredible talent.
Ocean Cleanup
I love to dive. There's nothing like being down in the peaceful world with just the flora and fauna of the sea, In the hope we can save the oceans, I have decided to give 10% of sales of my work to The Ocean Cleanup--they work daily to rid the world's oceans of plastic. Feel good about your purchase!
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
